Brief overview: Laboratory medicine is a medical specialty that is concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on the laboratory analysis of fluids such as blood, urine, stool, peritoneal fluid, pleural fluid, ascitic fluid and other body fluids by using the tools of chemistry and hematology. This department is responsible for daily routine investigation and few special investigations for all adult and pediatric cancer patients.
Clinical activities: Laboratory procedures:
( a) Hematological investigations.
(b) Bio-chemical
investigations of blood samples.
(c) Stool & Urine (Physical,
Chemical & microscopical) Investigation.
Mission:
To provide accurate, timely and high-quality laboratory diagnostic services that underpin cancer detection, treatment monitoring and research; to support multidisciplinary oncology care with dependable data; and to contribute to the prevention and control of cancer through education, training and innovation in laboratory medicine.
Objectives:
Provide Accurate Diagnostics: Deliver timely and precise laboratory tests to support cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Ensure Quality and Safety: Maintain strict quality control, calibration, and biosafety standards.
Support Clinical Teams: Collaborate with oncology and other departments for integrated patient care.
Promote Training and Education: Train laboratory technologists and support continuous professional development.
Advance Research: Participate in cancer research and innovation in laboratory diagnostics.
Enhance Data and Systems: Use digital systems for accurate data management and reporting.
Expand Access: Strengthen national networks for cancer diagnostic services.
Academic Activities:
01. Regular active participation in Central Medical Education.
02. Taking regular classes of technologists (Diploma, BSC) coming from different institutes .
03. Conducting exams& giving certificates on completion of training.
04. Attending different workshops organized by various departments of NICRH and national, International organizations.
